I have been a Lead Singer since I first joined a band at university in 1981. Throughout the 1980s I sang Rock and Pop vocals in bands on the Midlands pub/club circuit. I also performed as a solo singer with the very first karaoke machines. Back then, a singer had to sing in the original key of the song and learn the lyrics. It was good discipline and practice.
From 1987 I sang Lead Vocals with several Big Bands (Jazz) including the Steve King Big Band, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra and The Fabulous '40s Swing Orchestra - working in the Theatre, Ballrooms, Stately Homes and Jazz Festivals (including Upton and Ludlow). At present I am available as a lead vocalist or deputy for Big Bands/Jazz Ensembles/Pop Acts, and I also work as a Solo Performer with my own Jazz and Pop shows.
I am principally a singer, but have a very good musical ear, and can write songs from chord lists - or write the chords to melodies to create a song. My original compositions are available on MP3 files or CD's if you wish to hear them. I have never played bass guitar - but on numerous occasions have devised bass lines by ear to match the song arrangement when the guitarist has been experiencing a block. Similarly, I can create harmonies for vocals by ear. As an extremely versatile singer - I am as comfortable performing Rolling Stones songs or soul numbers - as I am crooning through Frank Sinatra-style jazz ballads. My clarinet playing is not classically trained.. but I can play to jazz records by ear and create original arrangements. I have perfect musical pitch and perfect timing. Music is my life... it is what I am about.
