Voiceover & Radio

We are an independent theatre company based in Victoria, Australia. In light of having to postpone an upcoming production (due to entering into yet another lockdown), we will soon be producing a short series of online "radio plays" penned by Alan Bennett, and are now seeking out actors to perform them. This application is open to actors from all around the globe.

These plays are collectively titled "Talking Heads", and they were written by Alan Bennett in the late 80's and 90's. Each play is a monologue, with a duration of roughly half an hour, and they were originally performed on television. In 2020, the TV series was remade and aired in the UK on BBC One. They are, generally speaking, witty, hilarious, and often heartbreaking monologues.

We are looking for actors who would be interested in recording one of these monologues over the next few weeks. Each monologue will be streamed online for one month only, as part of a ticketed event. You may like to think of them as audiobooks available for rental, if that paints a clearer picture of what we're talking about.

Please note that, in order to apply for any of the roles listed below, we request that you possess a good-quality microphone with which you can record the monologue — computer and phone microphones won't cut it, unfortunately!!

Another crucial point worth mentioning is that all of these monologues should be performed with a convincing (if not native) regional UK accent. If you are asked to submit a short audition tape at any point during the audition process, you can choose to either match the accent used in the original TV performances of these monologues, or pick another dialect from the UK that you think works for the character.

The last thing we'd like to convey is that, although the monologues themselves will be recorded with audio only, it might at some point be necessary to submit a headshot, photo or short video for marketing purposes.

Thank you for considering this casting call, and best of luck!

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

Monologues will need to be submitted by late-September, as a rough deadline.

Job payment

Fixed price of $100 - We would LOVE to pay more generously for this project, but after two years of cancelled performances, this is the best our company can offer to each performer!
