Synopsis:

Swimming with Sharks is a drama which follows the life of a young man suffering from a gambling addiction.

When his hobby of betting evolves into a dangerous obsession, the winning hand is knowing when to stop.
The protagonist Finn is already deep into his secret gambling and betting addiction. As it starts to spiral out of control, his fluctuating emotions and behaviours start to become apparent to his girlfriend Sarah.

When confronted by Sarah, it finally takes a toll on his home life too. Sarah, who feels neglected, impulsively cheats on Finn with his friend Mark. On the same day, Finn discovers this and gets fired from his job. To escape from reality, Finn bets all of his money at a casino and loses it. He idolises his addiction as the answer to his new financial concerns and makes a deal with a Loan Shark. When he is unable to make the money back through gambling, he starts to experience a combination of fear, dread and anxiety and his thoughts become flooded with suicide.

After being threatened by the Loan Shark, the film ends with the opening scene of him standing on a train station platform edge looking distressed and suicidal. Unaware if Finn attempted suicide or not, the circular structure leaves the audience aware of the brutal reality of a gambling addiction and the difficulty in escaping the continuous trap you can fall into.
