Carma Sharon is an experienced actress, model, singer, filmmaker… you name it, Carma can do it! Originally from Israel, Carma has lived and worked all over the globe, studying her craft in London and LA before moving to Australia and deciding to call Sydney her home.
How long have you been on StarNow, and what prompted you to join?
Good question! I would say for over 10 years. I have been on StarNow for a while now. When I first joined I was simply hoping to find some gigs as a singer, there weren’t many platforms like that back then.
How has StarNow changed since you first joined StarNow?!
It’s changed big time! It’s now much more user friendly, with a lot more paid gigs and castings, and endless opportunities. There is also quite a bit more talent on site.
You're an active member of StarNow, with a fantastic profile full of some amazing shots. Do you have any advice for people looking to make the most of the site?
Put up as many good quality photos and videos as possible. Also, don’t be too shy to apply, you never know what casting professionals are looking for.
What was your first TV commercial and/or modelling job, and how did you land that position?
Oh gosh, I can’t even remember now. I’ve been performing, singing and modelling since I was a kid, but my first paid screen acting job was on Deadly Women 8, “Heartless.” I believe Beyond Productions found me through StarNow actually!
How did that experience ultimately shape your career path moving forward?
It’s what started me off in my screen acting career, and I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have landed many other roles on film and TV ever since.
When did you know you wanted to get in to TV/modelling?
Ever since I can remember. I have always been fascinated with performing, entertaining and exploring shadow parts of myself
I started acting unofficially in primary school. My immediate family were all entertainers – my mum was a model and my dad was a theatre actor. Both of my siblings have been involved with singing and performing as well, so I was naturally attracted to that.
I’m the only one in my family who decided to take it further and persuse my acting as a career – so far it’s been a blast! I’m living the dream. There are so many opportunities and stories to tell, and I’m eager and thrilled to be part of them.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Playing Jamila M’Barek (lead) on Deadly Women 9, now that was great fun!
I am also very excited to be working on a feature film I’m co-writing and playing the lead in, titled "The Forever Fighter".
You landed a role in "Dead Squad" through StarNow. Tell us about that!
I auditioned through StarNow for the role of the Nurse in the American Production "Dead Squad". They flew us to Bali to shoot the feature film, which was amazing! The film has now been signed off for distribution in the US and is available on Amazon. I had a blast portraying that character, she was a very confused little lady. It’s a great film and it just won the award for Best Feature Film at the Sanctuary Film Festival.
It's no secret that modelling/acting require long, often unusual hours. Do you ever find yourself feeling burnt out, and if so, how do you move past it?
For sure. I’m not a morning person either, so being on set at 5am does makes me question my career choice but I love it so much – the adrenaline keeps me going. It also helps if you try and rest as much as possible between shot. Oh, and bananas!
It’s not really hidden but I’m also a headshot photographer and photoshop retouching is my obsession.
What was your dream job when you were a kid?
Exactly what I do now for a living – acting and singing!
Best way to blow off steam?
Sitting in my jacuzzi! It’s my happy place.
If you could have dinner with any actor or model, who would it be and what would you order?
Toni Collette! I’m so impressed with her work. Oh, and can I please also invite Jim Carrey? The oysters are on me!
