Talent of the Month — Vivian Eyo-Ephraim

Vivian Eyo-Ephraim is a model from London, who won our Global Curve Model Search back in 2017. Since winning the competition, her career has taken off – with images of her modelling for ASOS going viral earlier this year.

Read on to find out more about Vivian's journey and what she's planning for the future.

How long have you been on StarNow, and what prompted you to join?
I have been on StarNow for a year and a half. I joined because I was attending drama school at the time and had so many friends who recommended using StarNow to find castings and other opportunities!

When did you know you wanted to get in to modelling??
When I joined StarNow! I'm not trying to be cliché, but I've always loved being in front of the camera, which is why I was an extra and did some acting back in the day. On signing up to StarNow, I saw so many castings for ‘plus sized models,’ I never knew it was a thing until then. My thoughts started running wild from there!

What's one thing you wish you had known before working as a model?
That it's not easy! It looks very glamourous, but there's a lot of work behind the scenes that I didn't realise. It's something I feel I will get accustomed to in time though.

One of your biggest achievements to date was when you won our Global Curve Model Search back in 2017. What was it like to win such a big competition?
It was an absolute shock! I was in denial for so long and didn't tell anyone out of fear it was a joke! I was incredibly proud of myself and grateful to God for such a blessing.

When images of you modelling for ASOS went viral earlier this year, your social media was flooded with mentions. How did you cope with the hype?
It was crazy! I had to turn my phone off to sleep at times – that's how insane it was. I couldn't believe it, but I had to adapt ASAP.

One thing I learnt from that experience, and still love to do, is to reply to as many comments as possible. We're all human and I think connecting with people that show you love is very important. I have made many friends (and internet friends) from doing that.

Apart from ASOS, what other brands have you worked for?
I've worked for brands such as Very, Littlewoods, and KappAhl (Sweden).

What advice do you have for other curve models looking for their big break?
For anyone trying to achieve their big break, all I can say is, keep going! Make sure your face is known. If you take a picture and post it on social media, make sure you tag your brands/agencies, let them know who you are. Leave a mark and good things will come in time.

How would you like to see your career evolve in the next five years?
I would love to be an established international model. I love travelling – so travelling to work for major brands would be amazing.

What’s the best moment of your career so far?
Booking my first international job. I felt like a celebrity! I was flown out and was well taken care of, which was amazing. The shoot was great and I got a chance to explore Sweden as a tourist.

Favourite thing about London?
London is basically the greatest city in the world. I love how much there is to explore – it's difficult to know everything and to have been everywhere in this city!

Hidden talent?
I can sing very well, but I'm quite shy, so nobody really knows about it.

Best way to blow off steam?
I take walks often. No music, just me and my thoughts surrounded by nature. It’s unbeatable.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I've lived and studied in Nigeria for some parts of my secondary education.

What's the number one thing on your bucket list?
To bathe Elephants! I really would love to visit Thailand to play with, and bathe elephants.

Favourite city and why?
It's got to be London for now. I don't really know anywhere else – I was born and raised here and love my city. As I mentioned earlier, there's so much to do and so many places to explore.

Do you have any siblings?
I have an older sister and younger brother.

Did you always know you wanted to be a model? If not, what did you want to be when you grew up?
No, I never thought I'd be a model. It wasn’t until last year when I joined StarNow and entered the competition with Bridge Models and StarNow that it become a reality. Growing up, I had always dreamt of acting!

What’s your favourite way to spend the weekend?
Going to the cinema with my best friends or staying in bed binge watching shows on Netflix.
